Selama ini kecerdasan buatan hanya bisa "membaca" apa yang kita tempelkan ke dalam kotak obrolan. Sekarang, salah satu model terbesar di dunia sudah dibekali mata: ia dapat melihat tampilan layar, lalu menggerakkan kursor, mengetik, dan membuka aplikasi — seperti yang biasa kita lakukan sendiri.
Apa yang sebenarnya berubah
Dokumentasi resmi Anthropic menyebut fitur bernama computer use memberi Claude tangkapan layar, kendali mouse, dan kendali papan tik atas sebuah lingkungan desktop. Statusnya kini sudah umum (GA), dengan nama perangkat computer_toolset_20260801.
Perubahan yang paling terasa datang pada 2 September 2026: Anthropic mengirim kemampuan background computer use ke Claude Cowork dan Claude Code. Menurut catatan dokumentasi mereka, Claude tidak merebut kursor atau papan tik pengguna, dan umumnya menunggu bila kita sedang mengetik. Klik, ketik, dan buka aplikasi berjalan di jendela latar yang tersembunyi, sehingga pekerjaan lain tetap bisa berjalan.
Jalan panjangnya sudah dimulai lebih awal: pada 23 Maret 2026 versi riset computer use dibuka untuk pengguna — mengendalikan desktop secara penuh di Mac, ditambah fitur Dispatch yang memungkinkan agen bekerja mandiri saat pengguna meninggalkan komputer.
Kenapa ini relevan untuk usaha kecil
Banyak usaha mikro, kecil, dan menengah menghabiskan waktunya di pekerjaan layar yang berulang: menyalin pesanan dari aplikasi obrolan ke buku catatan atau sistem kasir, memasukkan data pembelian ke lembar kerja, memeriksa stok satu per satu, menyusun rekap harian.
Selama ini otomatisasi seperti itu menuntut integrasi teknis yang mahal. Dengan agen yang bisa "melihat" layar, pekerjaan itu berpotensi diserahkan tanpa mengubah sistem yang sudah dipakai — persis seperti menyerahkan tugas kepada karyawan baru: ia melihat aplikasi yang sama, di komputer yang sama.
Tiga hal yang wajib dijaga sebelum mencoba
- Beri izin seperti memberi kunci ruangan. Dokumentasi Anthropic menegaskan pengembang wajib memberi tahu pengguna risiko yang relevan dan meminta persetujuan sebelum mengaktifkan kendali komputer.
- Jangan satu akun untuk semua. Sumber industri menyorot risiko prompt injection: agen yang bisa melihat layar juga bisa "tertipu" oleh teks di halaman atau surel. Menyerahkan kotak surat bersama atau sistem pelanggan kepada agen tanpa pembatas adalah pertanyaan perlindungan data, bukan sekadar soal produktivitas.
- Mulai dari tugas berdampak rendah. Rekap data, penamaan berkas, atau pengisian format berulang lebih aman dijadikan langkah pertama daripada pekerjaan yang menyentuh pembayaran.
Batas yang perlu diketahui
Menurut tinjauan September 2026, kemampuan ini belum mencakup paket Team dan Enterprise, dan tidak tersedia lewat perantara pihak ketiga seperti Amazon Bedrock, Google Cloud, maupun Microsoft Foundry — pengguna jalur itu memerlukan akun claude.ai terpisah. Until now, artificial intelligence could only "read" what we pasted into a chat box. That has changed: one of the world's largest models has been given eyes — it can look at the screen, then move the cursor, type, and open applications just as we do.
What actually changed
Anthropic's official documentation describes a capability called computer use that gives Claude screenshots, mouse control, and keyboard control over a desktop environment. It is now generally available (GA), under the client toolset name computer_toolset_20260801.
The most noticeable shift came on 2 September 2026, when Anthropic shipped background computer use to Claude Cowork and Claude Code. According to the documentation, Claude does not take over your pointer or keyboard, and generally waits while you are typing. Clicks, keystrokes, and app launches happen in hidden background windows, so other work can continue.
The groundwork started earlier: on 23 March 2026 the computer use research preview opened to users — full desktop control on Mac, plus a Dispatch feature that lets the agent keep working while the user steps away.
Why this matters for small businesses
Many micro, small, and medium businesses spend their days on repetitive on-screen work: copying orders from a chat app into a ledger or point-of-sale system, entering purchase data into a spreadsheet, checking stock item by item, assembling a daily recap.
Until now that kind of automation demanded expensive technical integration. With an agent that can "see" the screen, such work can potentially be handed over without changing the systems already in use — much like delegating to a new employee: it looks at the same application, on the same computer.
Three things to guard before trying it
- Grant access as you would hand over a room key. Anthropic's documentation is explicit that developers must inform end users of the relevant risks and obtain consent before enabling computer control.
- Do not use one account for everything. Industry coverage highlights prompt injection risk: an agent that can read a screen can also be "misled" by text on a page or in an email. Pointing a screen-control agent at a shared inbox or customer system is a data-protection question before it is a productivity one.
- Start with low-stakes tasks. Data recaps, file naming, or filling repeating formats are a safer first step than anything touching payments.
Known limits
As of the September 2026 review, the capability does not yet cover Team and Enterprise plans, and it is unavailable through third-party providers such as Amazon Bedrock, Google Cloud, or Microsoft Foundry — users on those routes need a separate claude.ai account. Adoption for larger teams therefore remains gradual.
Bottom line
Having "eyes" does not make AI all-knowing; it simply stops depending on whatever we choose to tell it. For a business owner, the value is practical: tedious on-screen work can finally be delegated — provided permissions, access boundaries, and oversight are designed first.
